Original banknotes from late Soviet period, before the fall of URSS, until some of the more recent banknotes in use from Kazakhstan, passing through rapid evolution. Money is encrypted by the artist and then put through the process of growing crystals on them.
Here, material – is an ordinary paper. At times paper may gain certain value, affecting people’s lives and structure of society, through all that, remaining just paper…
What gives value to such simple material? Our belief in it?
How does the value remain, how is it lost? Why?
In this series, concepts of past and future in society are interwoven, the ones of structure and its absence, beliefs and realities. Here, the objects that have lost its importance, by that affecting lives, social structures, and economy, end up being used paper. It is transformed in this work into objects, carrying memory of the epoch mixed with subjective storytelling of the artist.
